Employee Engagement

Implementing Environmental Policies in the Workplace

One of the most important aspects of reducing the environmental impact of a business is motivating employees to support new policies and procedures. Recent research carried out on behalf of Kyocera has shown that while 77% of employees feel personally concerned about environmental issues, they don’t take this level of concern with them into the workplace. The research showed that for environmental policies to be effective in the workplace, they need to be implemented and enforced from a senior level.

Reporting

Research has shown that simply making employees aware of the amount of resources that a company is using can lead to a reduction in consumption levels. It’s therefore essential that when adopting “switch off” policies, for example, employees are informed of the impact that following the policy has made. A regular update on the outcomes of green activities in the company newsletter gives employees a sense of achievement and a feeling that their efforts are bearing fruit.

Formal reporting in the company CSER (Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility) report is also essential, as it demonstrates that the company is committed to transparency in its environmental policies.
