Forum for the Future

Forum for the Future
Forum for the Future is a charity that works in partnership with business, the public sector and others. They help companies navigate their way through the complexities of sustainable development and work in partnership with over 60 organisations from a cross-section of sectors providing them with advice and challenges, with the long-term goal of transforming each sector.


Giraffe Innovation Ltd

Giraffe Innovation Ltd is a unique form of management consultancy giving advice on innovation management, sustainable design and EC Environmental legislation to companies of all sizes and UK Government.

They have worked with over 100 companies on Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) & RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in EEE), Packaging and End of Life Vehicle (EOLV) Directives and eco–design projects in the UK, U.S and China. They have identified potential savings of over £23 million (Euro 32 million) for their clients.


The Sustainable Development Commission

The Sustainable Development Commission is the Government's independent watchdog on sustainable development, reporting to the Prime Minister, the First Ministers of Scotland and Wales and the First Minister and Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. Through advocacy, advice and appraisal, they help put sustainable development at the heart of Government policy.

By sharing best practice, these businesses promise to play a powerful role in reducing the UK's carbon emissions.

The Network has over 800 members and is free to join at any time.


Best Foot Forward

Best Foot Forward is one of Europe's leading sustainability consultancies specialising in ecological and carbon foot printing.

They carry out carbon and ecological footprint analyses for businesses and other organisations. Their key products and services have been designed to assess sustainability and assist organisations in reducing their footprint.


Waste Watch

Waste Watch

Waste Watch is a UK environmental charity with a mission to raise awareness around waste issues and to encourage waste reduction, reuse and recycling. It does this through work in:

  • education and training
  • marketing communications, and
  • research and evaluation.

It supports businesses, schools, community groups, local authorities and public bodies to meet environmental targets and sustainability goals; communicate with customers, staff and stakeholders; save money and improve efficiency; and enhance their green credentials and raise their profile.


Envirowise

Envirowise offers free, independent support to help businesses become more resource efficient and save money. Since 1994, Envirowise has helped UK industry save more than £1 billion by reducing waste early on in their business processes. They also offer advice on managing unavoidable waste and working with suppliers to maximise gains from beginning to end.

Services include sector-specific advice, newsletters and access to free events.


The Carbon Trust

The Carbon Trust is an independent company, established and funded by the UK Government. Its mission is to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with organisations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies. Its website is a useful source of practical publications and downloadable resources, and it regularly holds free educational workshops.




Defra

The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is the government department responsible for climate change and environmental protection. Its website contains information about business and the environment and guidance about the environmental impacts of consumer products, including green labels and claims.

WRAP

WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) helps individuals, businesses and local authorities to reduce waste and recycle more, making better use of resources and helping to tackle climate change. It is a not-for-profit company backed by government funding and has three primary targets:

  • Sending less to landfill
  • Reducing carbon emissions
  • Increasing economic impacts

WRAP has a range of support available which, at times, includes the provision of funding.


NetRegs

NetRegs provides free environmental guidance for small and medium-sized businesses in the UK. It aims to help organisations understand what they need to do to comply with environmental law and protect the environment. NetRegs is a partnership between the UK environmental regulators – the Environment Agency in England and Wales, SEPA in Scotland and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) in Northern Ireland.

Business Link

Businesslink.gov.uk aims to help businesses save time and money by providing instant access to clear, simple, and trustworthy information. These services are funded by Regional Development Agencies, and supported by government departments, agencies and local authorities. It has an extensive environment and efficiency section, including tools, courses and access to funding.
